13,000 people expected to march today for #climatestrike in Milan.

Similar initiatives going on all around the world.

We’re all asking ourselves what we can do about this, as all of the relevant decisions will have to be taken at a global, governmental and corporate level anyway.

I think reducing the use of plastic or using low consumption light bulbs are mere palliatives.

But there is one thing that you can do that will have a real impact:

STOP BUYING THE FUCKING PETROL CARS!

It’s not the solution to everything. But it’s one first meaningful step in the right direction.

If we stop buying petrol (or Diesel, for fuck’s sake, there are still people buying Diesel cars today!) cars tomorrow, the car industry will have to stop producing petrol cars next week. If we stop in twenty years, they will stop producing them in twenty years. Simple offer and demand logic: it never fails.

But nope. There are thousands of good-hearted people out there who are aware of environmental issues and complain that there are ‘no solutions’ and are going out to buy they brand new internal combustion car this very day.

I mean, if you already own a petrol car and you need it to go to work and to go shopping, that’s ok. Your life is probably hard enough like this: I’m not expecting you to stop using your car as I couldn’t do that either!

But if you’re about to change your car, or you don’t own one and are about to buy it, there is absolutely NO EXCUSE IN THE WORLD why you should buy a petrol car.

Be aware:

IF YOU BUY ANOTHER BRAND NEW PETROL CAR NOW YOU ARE JUST AS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE UPCOMING ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER AS ANY CORPORATE LEADER OR POLITICIAN WHO DIDN’T ACT PROMPTLY DO ADDRESS THIS TREMENDOUS ISSUE.

Remember that this is no joke.

The life and death of your grandchildren and mine depend on a choice that you can make today and will have a major impact. The car industry alone is not the sole responsible of climate change and other environmental issues. But it’s a major link of the production-consumption chain and jolting this ring out will require the whole system to re-adjust accordingly.

We have hope, but it’s no time for complaint.

IT’S TIME TO ACT.

Impactful action has this one feature: it’s middle scale.

It’s not about ‘simple gestures’ like taking care to switch off the light when you leave a room. That will only serve to alleviate your consciousness.

And it’s not about being loud, like joining a march nobody will care about in two days.

It’s about finding the most striking feat you can perform at your own scale. And act uncompromisingly with no fear of compromising yourself.
